Yoga Bonito.

Once more, the yoga issue thingy had successfully got on my tits (yes people, I said tits). Its really disturbing because the statement that had been made, caused a tremendous fuss amongst Malaysian. And at one point, I think it reveals the weakness of the legal bodies in Malaysia especially concerning sensitive religion and racial issue. As for now, most of the states is set and ready to implement the new
fatwa (edict) on banning Yoga for Muslims, leaving my dearly beloved Selangor and Perak to put the decision on hold since they are trying to consent this matter to the Sultan first.

As all of you might know, this matter had been receiving bad publicity and disagreement, even in the Islamic community itself..
  • Selangor and Perak are not ready to implement the new fatwa since they haven't discuss the matter with the state Fatwa Commitee and seek the Sultan consent. This proves that the matter need to be elaborate more that what it is now.
  • Perlis Mufti,  Dr. Asri Zainul Abidin disagree with the National Fatwa Council, stating that they should provide an alternative or solution for Yoga amongst Muslim, rather than banning the whole practice. On the paper, he didn't attend the meeting regarding the new edict because he felt uncomfortable with the discrimination by JAKIM and its director. A direct K.O punch in the face of JAKIM!
  • Sisters In Islam commented that "If Yoga would be banned, would qi gong, kung fu, judo and all going to be banned soon? These all have Hindu/Buddhist elements in the practise". So true and wise~
  • A Malay related council, PEWARIS had slammed the Hindu Sangam Malaysia president for commenting the National Fatwa Council decision. They even gave a strong warning for others who interfere and question the decision. The PEWARIS claimed that "The fatwa is only implemented on Muslim, not other believers or religion". In short, "Jangan kacau tepi kain orang la!...Sebuk jer". Bagi komen pun salah ke En. PEWARIS??. Apalah nak jadi ngan certain individuals in Malaysia skarang nieh. Takkan la diorg yang praktis yoga ni nak duduk diam buat bodoh jer. The PEWARIS comments, to me, is nothing but nonsense.
  • A random comment in The Star newspaper said that now Yoga might be banned, we can practice Pilates as a new alternative. I like this idea because at least this person have the rough idea to help saving the yoga from banning.
  • Newsflash!!...Indonesia might start a new fatwa themselves to ban smoke and cigarettes throughout their country. They said that before this, they have implemented the smoking ban around public places and prohibited children from smoking. Seems its not working well  and the new edict is made in concern with the crucial public health issue regarding terrible smoking problems. The new edict (which I personally found very ambitious and tough) will be put on discussion next year. Question now is, will Malaysia follow this step? Who knows.
With all of this different (and interesting) comments made from various individuals and parties, I found Dr. Asri (Mufti Perlis) comments is the most wise and useful. In my POV, why don't these council guys sit down and provide alternatives or even a solution for Muslim in practicing Yoga, instead of banning the whole blanket of it. And come to think of it, why all of a sudden they want to ban this Yoga practice? Whatever happen to the ajaran sesat Ayah Pin? and the misled ajaran Kahar which have a very strong 'fan-base'? Why tak keluar nationwide fatwa to ban smoking since its threatening the health? Why they wont discuss on it? Why wont they handle and settle these serious case first? What is happening in the council? Hrmm..

I hope they will discuss this matter out again in detail and support Dr. Asri idea to provide alternatives for Yoga amongst Muslim. Its really a big shame for the country if they decide to ban the whole thing for Muslim. Nampak sangat takder bender nak buat. Aritu nak bagi pangkat Datuk to Shah Rukh Khan. Now banning Yoga. Esok??....

Mmg sah diorg takder kejer lain dah...

Yoga..strange but likely or not..i am kinda agree with the current situation...below are several reasons why i chose to say that:
1) aku ada blaja TITAS, tamadun Islam & asia..and i learnt about the origin of yoga from the beginning..coz it's mentioned in the book..Yoga is one of the best ways to UNITE ur soul with GOD..

and if u say: kami just mengamalkan senaman je..bukan mentera2.

i'll say..how many of you really dig into the ethics and rules of practising Yoga 100%..can you make sure it's nothin related to our faith? rata2 pengamal yoga beragama islam x selidik dulu benda2 ni..dorunk akan ikut the instructor 100&..without knowing what are they practising..

and if that is NOT enough

the next question would be..who are we to ignore the Majlis Fatwa kebangsaan?? do we have the KNOWLEDGE to apply the syariah,to do the so-called ijtihad...coz we have to bare in mind..those who enforce the fatwa are those who are expert in Syariah, and it's law...samalah macam aku bagi ko wat surgery for appendix..do u know how to perform it? you have the slightest idea ever..

that's why..if we are not that educated in syariah whatsoeva..the best way in this situation is to follow those who are experts in this.
rasulullah bersabda:aku tinggalkan kepada umatku 2 perkara, Al-quran dan As-Sunnah, pegangla kepada kedua2nya, nescaya kamu akan selamat dunia akhirat... in this case, Majlis Fatwa is the best way to refer to if there's any misunderstanding...

it's not that they dont have other issues to discuss, just that yoga involves aqidah.

aqidah is number one in anything. therefore if u are healthy but the aqidah went amiss, then there's no use to it. that's a comparison between smoking and yoga-ing actually :)

one more, tuan guru nik aziz had already mentioned about smoking = haram loooong time ago, but people just ignore it.

and pangkat datuk bollywood tu has nothing to do with majlis mufti :P

@zara: hectic la nowadays..dulu this thing sumwhere in the mid part of the paper..now, it had made itself successful in the front page...adei~

@pinkiss: theres always an alternative~

@wan: you are very correct with wat u commented. but i have to make a point here that as long muslim do yoga as nothing more than just a health exercise (not being one wif 'god'), i think it should be orite since the niat is exercise. plus, recently the indonesia arent going to ban yoga since they dont know how much the yoga pengaruh back there. Majlis Fatwa is the solution for this and indeed they are the professional in this thing. that i hafta agree but wat i dislike is sum individuals make a big fuss out of it and cause the big stir...itu yg den tak pueh hati~

@lolita: ya la...btol jugek but u see...y all of a sudden?..y mcm tetiba je they brought this up?..lebeh2 lagi ngan situasi malaysia camni...and if yoga is destined to be banned, then how bout qi gong, kung fu and others?..and olympix?...olimpik pun act is a tribute to greeks god..im no religous expertise tho~...to me, as long the NIAT is good, its fine...

@belle:...yeap~..its scietifically proven solat 5 waktu is a good exercise oso..but u know la, ada gak org yg nak cuba2 yoga ni...hmm..ayah pin pong tu pun cam bola ping pong...kejap kat sana..kejap kat sini..adei

i believe yoga itself as a form of art.meditation as a common stigma appointed to yoga.
after all we malays, have a lot of traditions and cultural pratices relating to hinduism, so why not banning the bersanding ceremony which is clearly haram.

i have to agree with u that there is always an alternative, mindsetting is very important with thorough religion understanding, as people perceives religion at different level of thought and implementation and in different level of understanding of its primary function

@dish:
